Environment Canada’s chief meteorologist David Phillips called the Fort McMurray, Alberta wildfire of last spring an “almost biblical” disaster. The fire dubbed “the beast” for its unpredictability has been selected as the year’s top weather story in Canada in an annual list compiled by the country’s top meteorologists. The wildfire forced nearly 90-thousand people to flee the city, levelled thousands of homes and buildings, and was the costliest insured natural disaster in Canadian history with 3.77-billion dollars in claims so far.
