As promised by the B-C Liberal government last September, the province’s minimum wage is going up on September 15th. The Jobs Ministry has issued a release confirming the minimum wage will increase by 50 cents per hour to $11.35, while the liquor server minimum wage goes up by the same amount to $10.10. The province says the increase ensures all workers benefit from B-C’s thriving job market. When the last incremental increase took effect last year, BC Federation of Labour president Irene Lanzinger said workers were still earning poverty-level wages below $15 per hour and she urged voters to keep the issue in mind prior to the general election in May.
