B-C’s Liberal and N-D-P leaders are applauding Ottawa’s financial aid package to help the forestry sector deal with the U-S-Canada softwood trade dispute. Natural Resources Minister Jim Carr announced the 867-million-dollar package today to help lumber producers and workers weather the impact of the punishing new U-S tariffs on Canadian softwood exports. Premier Christy Clark says the funding will help the 60-thousand people who work in the forestry sector in B-C, which is Canada’s largest producer of softwood lumber. N-D-P Leader John Horgan says the federal funding is a “good start” and he expects the province to get its fair share, to reflect its weight in the country’s softwood industry.
