Pacific Rim Conservation officers say a wolf that got too close to a Ucluelet elementary school has been put down. Conservation officer Steve Ackles says the wolf was approaching people, attacking dogs on leashes, and it had been right outside the elementary school playground in Ucluelet Friday morning. The wolf likely became used to humans and probably approached vehicles because it had been fed before, and Ackles says officers tracked down and destroyed the animal during the lunch hour Friday while children at the school remained indoors. Ackles urges anyone who has a wildlife encounter to report it immediately by calling the Report All Poachers and Polluters hotline at 1-8-7-7-9-5-2-7-2-7-7 so officers can intervene before habituation gets out of hand.
