Temperatures are expected to heat up across much of the province this week, prompting Environment Canada to issue a series of special weather statements. The agency says a massive ridge of high pressure is building over southern B-C, leading to several days of hot weather and the potential for record-breaking temperatures. Communities in Metro Vancouver, the south coast and on east Vancouver Island can expect to see the mercury climb to the mid and upper 30s midweek. Environment Canada says people should drink plenty of water and stay in a cool place to avoid heat-related illnesses
