B-C’s chief electoral officer says allegations of indirect political donations have prompted a review of potential Election Act violations. Keith Archer says the review by Elections B-C will be open-ended and could be forwarded to the Criminal Justice Branch of the Justice Ministry. In a statement, Archer cites sections of the Election Act that outline restrictions on political contributions and requirements to record information about each contributor. The Globe and Mail reports that lobbyists are routinely donating money to B-C’s Liberal Party party on behalf of corporate and special interests. Deputy Premier Rich Coleman — who is also the Liberal Party’s campaign co-chairman — says the party will co-operate fully with any investigation.
