The B-C Nurses’ Union says violence at health facilities in the province have reached shocking levels. They say Work Safe B-C reports show the injury rate due to workplace violence for health care workers has increased by over 50 per cent between 2006 and 2015. In the past decade, they say over 9-thousand 200 injury claims due to violence were filed by health care and social services workers — which works out be nearly three injuries per day. The union is calling on the government and health authorities to improve working conditions for nurses by increasing security personnel at sites and creating harsher sentences for perpetrators of violence.
