B-C’s Liberal government is taking steps to defuse a brewing controversy over political party donations. A spokesman for Premier Christy Clark says legislation is being introduced today to create an independent panel to examine political financing and to enforce the prompt public reporting of campaign donations. The move comes three days after it was revealed the R-C-M-P is investigating possible violations of B-C’s Election Act related to indirect political fundraising contributions and other unspecified contraventions. The investigation comes less than two months before the May 9th provincial election.
