B-C’s New Democrats say they welcome the appointment of a special prosecutor to provide legal advice to the R-C-M-P over possible violations of British Columbia’s Elections Act. The Criminal Justice Branch says Vancouver lawyer David Butcher will help the Mounties as they investigate contributions made to B-C’s political parties. N-D-P justice critic Leonard Krog says it was the opposition who called for a special prosecutor, adding he’s aware that donations to his own party could be part of the investigation. Krog says the New Democrats would have preferred that Liberal Premier Christy Clark had just agreed with their proposal to ban what he described as “big money’s influence on government.”
