Thursday’s throne speech is expected set the clock ticking toward the Liberal government’s defeat, but despite that, the party has revealed another spending promise it plans to make. Environment Minister Jordan Sturdy says the speech will include a plan to spend 50-million dollars on new charging stations for electric or hybrid vehicles. Sturdy says the clean energy initiative is something that’s been in mind for some time — but when asked why it wasn’t part of the Liberals’ recent election campaign said it’s the type of work that needs to be done. The Liberals revealed yesterday that the throne speech will also include a promise to boost welfare rates for the first time in a decade and plans to end corporate and union donations to political parties — both denounced by the N-D-P as ploys by the minority Liberals to try to hang onto power.
