B-C’s new N-D-P premier says the province will soon go from last to third in the country when it comes to income assistance rates. John Horgan says monthly disability and income assistance rates will each go up by 100 dollars in about two months. He says it will be the first increase in a decade for welfare rates. The previous Liberal government had promised an increase in rates last month in a revamped throne speech, but the New Democrats took power this week after gaining a minority government with the support of the Green party.
