More people have been forced to leave communities in B-C’s Interior after lightning sparked new fires and winds fanned the flames. Ryan Turcot with the B-C Wildfire Service says 28 new fires were sparked across the province over the weekend and gusty wind caused aggressive fire growth in the Cariboo region. R-C-M-P spokeswoman Dawn Roberts says officers noticed the fires and made a tactical decision to get people out of several communities before officials issued formal evacuation orders. But Roberts says officers in some areas are still dealing with people who have ignored evacuation orders, which makes the jobs of first responders more difficult.
