Police-Pot Legalization

/ 97.3 The Eagle
A police department in the Lower Mainland is joining calls for Ottawa to hit pause on plans to legalize marijuana. Deputy Chief Mike Serr with the Abbotsford Police Department says officers won’t be ready if pot becomes legal next summer. He says police forces are still waiting for laws to be developed at the federal, provincial and municipal levels, and officers can’t be trained until that legislation is in place. Officials from the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police, Ontario Provincial Police and the Saskatoon Police Service have all testified at a health committee in Ottawa this week, saying the timeline for marijuana legalization is too short.
