Party Finance Changes

/ 97.3 The Eagle
The provincial government has put forward legislation that would radically change campaign finance rules in the province, but the new laws may come with a steep price tag. Attorney General David Eby has tabled amendments to the Election Act that would ban corporations and unions from donating to political parties, and limit individual contributions to 12-hundred dollars per year. The changes also include a per-vote subsidy that would see both the Liberals and New Democrats receive more than eight million dollars over the next five years, while the Green party would get 3.4 million. Andrew Wilkinson with the Opposition Liberals says his party will vote against the bill because taxpayers shouldn’t be funding political parties.
