              The 2017 Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons. Abbreviated as I-CAN, the organization was formed in 2007 and works to promote implementation of the Treaty on the Prohibition on Nuclear Weapons. The Norwegian Nobel Committee commended I-CAN for drawing attention to what it called “the catastrophic humanitarian consequences of any use of nuclear weapons.
