Much of the rest of B-C is bracing for a first taste of winter. Environment Canada says a low pressure system is developing in northern Alberta and moving south, bringing this province the first Arctic air mass of the season. Flurries are predicted in areas from Smithers to the East Kootenay, while the weather office is calling for at least a dusting from Whistler to Kamloops and Penticton by the end of the week. Road maintenance contractors in southeastern B-C warn that much more than a dusting could blanket Kootenay highways by the weekend, with forecasters calling for up to 20 centimetres of snow.
