Premier John Horgan is rejecting calls from Green party Leader Andrew Weaver to ban foreign buyers from British Columbia’s real estate market. Horgan says the N-D-P government’s February budget will include measures to dampen speculation and increase housing supply but won’t prohibit foreign buyers. He says such a ban would send the wrong message to investors about B-C’s open economy. The previous Liberal government introduced a 15 per cent tax on foreign-purchased real estate in Metro Vancouver in an effort to allow more B-C residents to buy homes.
