A powerful earthquake in Alaska has triggered a Tsunami warning for the entire B-C coast. The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake had a preliminary reading of 8.2 and hit at 1;30 a.m. Communities on Haida Gwaii and along the western coat of Vancouver Island have enacted Tsunami protocols, with residents on Haida Gwaii evacuating to higher ground but a tweet from the City of Vancouver says a tsunami warnings is not in effect for the city. Gillian Der, a University of B.C. student studying in Queen Charlotte on Haida Gwaii says sirens sounded shortly after the warning was issued but residents are now at muster points, no significant waves have been seen and everyone is calmly waiting for the all-clear.
