Canada’s Fisheries Ministry is launching an independent expert panel to investigate aquaculture and marine environment protections. Minister Dominic LeBlanc said in a statement Friday that he understands Canadians have concerns about aquaculture and the expert panel will help ensure that science is applied to decisions made about the industry. Chief science Advisor Mona Nemer has been appointed to lead the expert panel that is expected to release a report with recommendations, which will be made public. The panel will look at how to improve evidence-based decision-making that protects the environment while supporting sustainable aquaculture to protect jobs.
