The federal government will send about 200 Canadian Armed Forces members to B-C to help with mop-up operations that contain the spread of wildfires. Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale says the government accepted a formal request for help from B-C as nearly 600 wildfires burn across the province. He says the government will also send aircraft to transport firefighting personnel and equipment, support medical evacuations and move people in remote communities out of harm’s way. The province says about 3,000 residents have been forced to flee their homes, in addition to the more than 17,000 people who have been told to be ready to leave at a moment’s notice.
