Premier John Horgan and Jobs Minister Bruce Ralston say they’re pleased with the U-S International Trade Commission’s unanimous finding of no injury in Catalyst Paper’s newsprint exports from British Columbia to the United States. In a joint statement, Horgan and Ralston say it means Catalyst employees on Vancouver Island, in Powell River and in Metro Vancouver can breathe more easily and Catalyst will no longer have to pay debilitating, unfair dues. The ruling means that combined countervailing and anti-dumping duties applied by the U-S Department of Commerce to Catalyst’s newsprint products since August 2nd. Although the duties applied since January will be refunded, Horgan and Ralston say the damage the case inflicted on Catalyst and other Canadian producers is disturbing.
